An evening out at the beach ended with several people being airlifted following a DWI wreck on South Padre Island.

It all happened on Park Road 100 just south of Beach Access 5 around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested 19-year-old Anthony Rojelio Rodriguez at the scene.

Court records released on Saturday show that state troopers were called to investigate a two-vehicle accident.

Troopers arrived at the scene where they found Rodriguez's Buick Rendezvous and a 2005 Hyundai Sonata had been involved in an accident.

The driver and passengers of the Sonata were all airlifted to the Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.

Records show that the driver received a broken pelvis and internal bleeding while one of the passengers had a broken collar bone.

The Hyundai Sonata was registered to a woman who lives off of FM 1847 in Los Fresnos but her family could not immediately be reached for comment.

State troopers reported that Rodriguez appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test.

Investigators charged the Elsa man with two counts of intoxication assault.

Rodriguez appeared before a Cameron County Magistrate Judge on Saturday morning where he was issued $50,000 dollars in bonds.

Court records show that Rodriguez was on probation at the time of the accident.

The Elsa man had been sentenced back in December to six months probation for resisting arrest in Bexar County.
