Jury finds Gulf Cartel leader 'El Yankee' guilty of drug trafficking

A jury in Washington DC handed down a verdict finding a Gulf Cartel leader from Camargo guilty of drug trafficking.

Aurelio Cano-Flores has been on trial in Washington DC since February 11th.

After hearing almost two weeks of testimony, a jury found Cano-Flores guilty on Tuesday afternoon.

Sentencing for Cano-Flores is set for May 13th where he faces up to life in prison.

Once listed as one of USA's Most Wanted, Cano-Flores ran Gulf Cartel operations in Camargo, Tamaulipas where he went by the nickname "El Yankee."

Camargo is located right across the border Rio Grande City in Starr County.

Mexican authorities captured Cano-Flores and extradited him to the United States in August 2011.
