Authorities are investigating the cause of a brush fire that spread to an orchard damaging part of the crop.

It all happened off Iowa Road and Mile 6 North north of Peñitas around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters from Mission, Alton and La Joya all responded to the fire.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all started in a brushy area where trash has accumulated.

The fire burned an acre of land and spread to an orchard where it burned some citrus trees.

Firefighters said Monday’s strong winds helped spread the fire and even brought it close to home.

Authorities were able to put out the fire but the cause remains under investigation.
