A San Juan family defended their home after a 22-year-old attempted to burglarize them on Sunday morning.

The homeowner was asleep when she heard a noise in one of the bedrooms. As she walked into the room, she saw the suspect.

The woman yelled at the man and struck him with a 2X4 piece of wood.

San Juan police said she grabbed the suspect and called out for her son to help.

As her son was holding the suspect down, the 22-year-old bit him on the arm.

The woman then hit the 22-year-old on the head with a flashlight.

The son was able to hold the suspect down until authorities arrived to the scene.

All three suffered injuries. The mother and son were taken to the hospital for lacerations.

It happened at a home on the 400 block of Carroll Road at around 3:40 a.m.

San Juan police said the suspect was high on drugs. He faces two counts of burglary habitation to commit assault charges.
