A drive-by shooting at a home on the 2300 block of Adrian Street, was intended to be more than that, according to John Chambers, owner of the security company hired to guard the home.

"Last night they were going to attempt a kidnapping, so it was more than a drive-by," Chambers said. "Their intent was to capture one of the children to perhaps extort money."

Chambers said his security guards were hired about two weeks ago, when the residents at the home received a threat about a possible attack.

He said security guards have been at the home 24/7.

According to Harlingen Police, it was about 9:45 p.m. when a green or blue mini-van pulled up to the home.

A man with a red cloth over his face got out and started shooting the security guard's vehicle. A second man open fired towards the home.

Police said then the security guard returned fire from the front door of the home.

A neighbor saw it all unfold.

"At that point, I opened up my window and the security guard was standing in the middle of the street, with his gun," the woman said. "I yelled at him, 'are you sure you're not hurt?' Because I assumed maybe he had been shot. And he said, 'no but call 911!'"

The neighbor said she's lived on Adrian Street for about 30 years and nothing even remotely close to this shooting had ever happened.

Some neighbors said the woman living at the targeted home, works at an 8-liner establishment.

They said when she was first threatened, she mentioned it could've been a disgruntled employee trying to get back at her.

Children were home at the time of the shooting but no one was injured.

Police said the suspects are on the run and considered dangerous. Anyone with information should contact Harlingen Police.
