BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (AP) -- A former South Texas prosecutor indicted on racketeering charges disagrees with his former law partner and co-defendant in arguing his upcoming trial should stay in Brownsville.
A judge on Monday will hear a motion filed by the attorney of former Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos.
The motion opposes co-defendant Eddie Lucio's request to have their case moved.
Federal prosecutors say Villalobos and Lucio orchestrated the resolution of two cases, then split Lucio's legal fees.
The two men are also accused of paying a judge to keep quiet.
Lucio's attorney, John Blaylock, says in a filing that the case has gotten too much attention locally for his client to get a fair hearing.
But Villalobos' attorney, Joel Androphy, says jurors in Brownsville can be fair and a move would be inconvenient.
