A Brownsville man is behind bars after he allegedly led Border Patrol agents on a chase that ended with a crash.

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 33-year-old Carlos Don Juan on federal drug charges around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Court records show that Don Juan was among a group of drug smugglers spotted off Oklahoma and Florida Roads.

The men scattered while Don Juan and another man took off in a car loaded with five bundles of marijuana.

Records show that the car crashed into a support cable for a telephone pole but both Don Juan and his passenger fled on foot.

The passenger got away but authorities arrested Don Juan.

The Brownsville man appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio on Thursday morning.

Judge Recio denied bond for Don Juan until a Thursday afternoon hearing.
