A 3-year-old girl is safe and sound but authorities are investigating an incident where she was found wandering the streets of an Edinburg neighborhood.

It all happened off Minnie Road in north Edinburg early Tuesday morning.

Ninfa Zapata said she was sleeping when a 3-year-old girl knocked on her door.

Zapata said the 3-year-old girl still in her pajamas and had a soaked diaper.

The Edinburg woman wrapped the girl in a blanket, fed her apples and called the police.

The baby is now at home and safe with her mother.

Edinburg police said there was miscommunication between the girl’s mother and grandfather.

The mother went to drop off another child at school and left the baby with the grandfather.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time but Edinburg police said they are working with Child Protective Services.
