Border Patrol says the brutality of human smuggling is evident in the way they treat illegal immigrants.

This month, two undocumented women told Border Patrol agents that they were raped by human smugglers.

A woman from El Salvador said two smugglers separated her from a group of 20 other illegal immigrants and took her to a brushy area around the Falfurrias Checkpoint.

She said the men then raped her at gunpoint and left her behind. An illegal immigrant man from the group stayed behind to help take care of her.

Another woman, who was found near the Kingsville station, said she was at a stash house near Hidalgo when she was raped by three male smugglers on Jan. 6.

Border Patrol considers human smugglers “ruthless criminals”.

Agents say immigrants should not put their lives at risk by illegally entering the United States.

To report any suspicious activity, call the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector at 800-863-9382.
