Authorities are investigating an elderly man's death after he got hit by a car while crossing the street.

The 82-year-old man was killed on the 400 block of West Buchanan Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Harlingen police are investigating the fatal autopedestrian accident.

Investigators reported that the elderly man was attempting to cross the street when he walked in the path of a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier.

Police said the driver stopped, rendered aid and waited for police and ambulance to arrive.

Paramedics rushed the 82-year-old man to the Valley Baptist Medical Center where he passed away.

Investigators reported that the driver of the car was not speeding and that the elderly man was jaywalking.

Police said that the driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier is not facing charges.
