Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on the banks of a canal in Mercedes.
The man's body was found along the banks of a canal off FM 491 just north of Expressway 83.
The canal is on the other side of the street from the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show Grounds.
Both Mercedes firefighters and police are at the scene.
Investigators reported that the man's body was found sitting in a chair with a gunshot wound to the head.
Mercedes Police Chief Olga Maldonado said investigators could not find any identication on the man's body.
An autopsy has been ordered to learn more about the man's identity and cause of death.
