Firefighters from several cities have been called to help put out a fire in Rio Hondo where some neighbors reportedly fled their homes.

It all started with a small grass fire next to the Rio Hondo Community Park off South Reynolds Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Rio Hondo volunteer firefighters responded to the fire but it grew and spread due to windy conditions.

Firefighters issued a request for mutual aid from neighboring cities.

Action 4 News viewers reported that some neighbors have fled their homes due to the fire.
