A man trying to cross into the United States was found carrying 18. 7 pounds of methamphetamine in an Audi.
Jorge Luis Guzman-Munoz was arrested at the Pharr Port of Entry when the drugs were found.
He was referred to a secondary inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection when officers became suspicious of his 2005 white Audi A3.
During the inspection, a Canine Enforcement Officer and human/narcotic detention canine found 16 packages wrapped in cellophane beneath the central console area.
The packages contained a clear crystal substance, which tested positive for meth.
Guzman told officers that on December 8, he had been contacted by a smuggler who offered him $5,000 to drive the Audi across the border.
He picked up the car from a market in Guadalajara, Mexico on Monday.
Guzman said that he was not sure what the smuggler had him carry in the car, but figured it was bad due to the large amount of cash he was paid.
He said the smuggler told him to take the car to Houston.
