Two women are breathing a sigh of relief after a group of masked men attempted to steal their vehicle early Friday morning.

Mission police are calling this a crime of opportunity.

Saying it could've possibly all been avoided if the victims in this case would have paid closer attention to their surroundings.

According to police, one of the victims was dropping the other off at home on El Jardin Street, off South Shary Road when the men pulled up behind her.

In a matter of seconds the men jumped out of a dark colored Chrysler 300, masks covering their faces and assault rifles in hand.

The victims claim the men only spoke Spanish and pointing the gun at their head, telling them to get out of the vehicle.

The victims did as they were told.

After a few moments of struggling with the car, police said the suspects couldn't figure out how to take it out of park and took off with the driver's purse and iPhone.

"It's an opportunity,” said Mission Police's Cpl. Casas. “If you give the bad guys the chance they will take it. This case is a crime of opportunity and they took it."

Police are looking for four men in their mid-20's driving a dark colored Chrysler 300, with dark tinted windows and chrome rims.

Cpl. Casas said they don't believe these men were out to kidnap the women, just steal the vehicle.

Casas adds, the woman's Louis Vutton purse was taken from the vehicle and they believe the suspects could be trying to sell it.

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact Mission Crime Stoppers at 581-TIPS.

Some simple tips to keep yourself safe against crimes like this:

Always be aware of your surroundings and if you see a suspicious vehicle following you, don't stop.
