After yesterday's tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, many people are pushing for gun control.
The guns used by Adam Lanza, the alleged gunman, were purchased legally, but easily accessible, they belonged to Lanza's mother.
Over 100,000 people have signed a petition asking congress to immediately address the issue on gun control, posted on the White House’s official website.
"I am a real big supporter of people getting psychological exams or any type of exam before they can buy a weapon. As a citizen I really want bills to come out and say that you are a sound mind because we are not doing that we are only doing a background check and that is not included there," owner of Thin Blue Line Juan Gonzalez said.
He said there are individuals that are mentally unstable and something needs to get done about getting the guns out of their hands.
It was not until 2008, following the deadly shooting at Virginia Tech University, Congress passed legislation to require states provide data on mentally unsound individuals to the national instant criminal background check system, with the aim of halting gun purchases by the mentally ill.
Gonzalez said we have a right to carry a gun. “I feel that there’s a lot of responsible citizens out there but they have to receive the proper training,” added Gonzalez.
Joshua Montiel said he works the graveyard shift at work but feels safer with a gun.
He said for him it’s important to understand what he is getting into before he purchases a gun, but plans to buy one after he finishes the course.
"I wanted to wait to take the class first so I can be instructed properly I don’t really want to have something and not really know how to use it," Montiel said.
It’s simple things like how to load and unload a gun... Firing and laws on self defense that Juan Gonzalez says everyone needs..he says he wants to see a change for stricter laws especially for laws requiring people to get educated before they purchase a gun.
