Action 4 has learned new details regarding two Mission Police Department officers who were arrested by FBI agents Wednesday evening.

According to Mission Police Chief Martin Garza, who held a press conference Wednesday night, the men arrested are officers Jonathan Trevino and Alexis Espinoza.

Both men are sons of high ranking authority figures in the valley.

Trevino is the son of Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino and Espinoza is the son of Hidalgo Police Chief Rudy Espinoza.

“We're not talking about officers that respond to calls for service,” said Chief Garza. “We're talking about officers who conduct specific and specialized investigations."

According to Chief Garza the officers belonged to the "panama unit" of a local drug task force, designed to fight street-level dealers in and around the City of Mission and Hidalgo County.

The department has already turned over multiple documents involving narcotics investigations to the FBI concerning this case.

"Right now the only action that we can take is that of suspension until we get further information on the disposition of this investigation," said Chief Garza.

Mission PD maintains they are cooperating with the FBI and hopes this case does not place a black eye on the department.

"I think we have a great, dedicated police department. We have a total of 146 police officers that work hard to keep their integrity, and to give high standards of professionalism,” said the chief.  “I don't think the conduct of these officers should overcast the hard work that these officers have done in the past few years for the City of Mission and for the Rio Grande Valley."
