Authorities have shut down three local beaches due to high tides caused by a cold front that blew through the Rio Grande Valley early Monday morning.

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos issued the order on Monday afternoon.

Cascos ordered that officials have temporarily closed Boca Chica Beach to vehicular traffic due to high tides caused by this morning's cold front.

Officials have also closed Beach Access 5 and Beach Access 6 on South Padre Island until further notice.

Cascos said officials will continue to monitor the weather and reopen the beaches when conditions permit.
