A Brownsville man is behind bars some six months after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-wife.

Brownsville police arrested 23-year-old Fernando Mares on multiple criminal charges on Thursday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a patrol officer stopped Mares on Wood Hollow Drive .

A routine background check revealed that Mares was wanted for kidnapping his ex-wife back in June.

Investigators said Mares went to speak with her about getting back together but they got in an argument over text messages he had received from an ex-girlfriend.

Mares allegedly responded by pinching her on the neck, threatening her and forcing her into his car.

The two drove around for hours before Mares dropped her off at home.

Officers arrested Mares on warrants for assault, kidnapping and terroristic threats.

Mares appeared before a Brownsville Municipal Court judge on Thursday where he was issued $40,000 dollar bonds.
