A 21-year-old University of Texas-Pan American student lied to police about being mugged on campus.

On Nov. 13, the student told the University Police Department that while she was in the library, a man came up to her and punched her in the stomach.

She said after she had been punched, the man took her iPhone and fled the scene.

Her police report was determined to be false. The robbery never occurred and the 21-year-old lost her phone on a personal outing.

She was charged with False Alarm or Report and was taken to the Hidalgo County Jail.
