Stolen catalytic converters land two men in McAllen jail

Two men accused of going on a mini-crime spree to steal catalytic converters are now behind bars in Hidalgo County.

McAllen police arrested 37-year-old Exiquio Gutierrez and 52-year-old Juan Manuel Luna on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the men stole two catalytic converters from two different cars.

One car was parked on the 7600 block of North 10th Street while the other was parked off the 200 block of Nolana Avenue.

Officers believe others may be involved in a catalytic converter theft ring.

Both Gutierrez and Luna are from Mercedes.

The two appeare before a McAllen Municipal Court judge on Thursday where Gutierrez was issued $20,000 dollars in bonds and Luna was issued $100,000 dollars in bonds.
