Soldiers wanted for military desertion arrested at Donna bridge

Two soldiers from North Carolina are behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after authorities learned that they were wanted for military desertion.

It all happened at the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge on Tuesday morning.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 23-year-old Daniel Gene Vermette and 23-year-old David Conrad Reynolds.

Customs officers said the two men walked up from Mexico on the pedestrian lanes of the bridge.

A routine check revealed that both Jacksonville, North Carolina men were wanted for military desertion.

It's not clear what they were doing in Mexico but both men are behind bars until they can be extradited back to North Carolina.
