San Benito man arrested for choking woman

A San Benito man was arrested Wednesday morning after assaulting a 22-year-old woman.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on the 100 Block of Susan Diaz Street.

The victim, told police that Alejandro Tovias had tried to choke her several times.

She said that the 25-year-old came to the home highly intoxicated that morning. When she had confronted him about it, Tovias became upset and attempted to choke her.

Family of the victim became aware of the incident and called police.

Tovias was placed under arrest and charged with Assault, impending breathing or circulation (family violence), a 3rd Degree felony.

His bond was set at $25,000.
