Major power outages across the Valley

The City of McAllen is urging drivers to be extra cautious this morning. 

They are reporting some major power outages in the city that have caused some signal lights to go out at several major intersections.

AEP Texas Spokesman Frank Espinoza told Action 4 that reports have also come in on pole fires, mostly in the upper valley.

He said whenever there are dry spells,  a lot of dust accumulates especially on windy days, and when this dust gets in equipment on top of poles it causes the light rain or drizzle to create pole fires.

Here is the number of residents currently reporting power outages across the Valley.

Starr: 4,331

Hidalgo: 12,513

Cameron: 482

 Willacy: 629
