A middle school student in La Grulla could be facing aggravated assault charges after he allegedly stabbed another student in the back with a knife.

Rio Grande City CISD officials confirmed it happened at Grulla Middle School early Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said it all started because of an argument between classmates.

One thing led to another  and moments later, one of the 13-year-olds had two puncture wounds to the back.

Superintendent Roel Gonzalez said the 13-year-old suspect was quickly placed in handcuffs and the knife taken away.

Luckily for the victim the puncture wounds were small and didn't do much damage.

But Gonzalez said there is worry in the school district about how to prevent something like this from happening again.

He said they're already working on new measures but wouldn't go into detail.

Gonzalez said, in the end, it will come down to the student, faculty and staff at each school.

Any student that comes forward with a complaint with suspicious activity will be kept anonymous.

As for the teen suspect, charges are pending while the case will be turned over to the Starr County District Attorney’s Office.

The principal at grulla middle school will be meeting with concerned parents at 6:30 Wednesday.
