A boy kidnapped by his father six years ago in North Carolina is on his way home after being returned from Mexico in Brownsville.

FBI agents confirmed that 8-year-old Edwin Gonzales will be reunited with his mother six after being kidnapped.

Investigators said the boy's father Jorge Sanchez-Aguilera took the boy from North Carolina to Mexico.

Investigators said Edwin is now safely back in the United States and is currently in Brownsville, Texas.

Authorities arrested Sanchez-Aguilera in 2010 while a jury in Chatham County, North Carolina recently convicted him on three counts of first-degree kidnapping, one count of second-degree kidnapping and one count of first-degree burglary.

The child was ordered to be returned to his Mother prior to Aguilera’s sentencing.

Investigators are no releasing any additional details at this time.
