H-E-B kicks off their annual Feast of Sharing this weekend.
The first event will be held on Sunday, November 11th from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center.
H-E-B told Action 4 News “more than 12,000 McAllen residents” are expected at their Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday.
The menu includes turkey with gravy and cranberry sauce, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, a
vegetable medley and dessert. Guests will enjoy entertainment and activities for both adults and kids.
“This is a touching holiday tradition that H-E-B looks forward to every year,” said Danny Flores, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager.
“This is our way of thanking all of the communities we serve, bringing people together in a welcoming and festive way, and helping spread the spirit of the holidays.”
Preparing for a massive, large-scale feast of this size is no easy feat. It takes an army of volunteers to prepare 3,000 pounds of turkey breast, 2,500 pounds of cornbread dressing, 140 gallons of gravy, 380 gallons of mashed potatoes, 95 gallons of jellied cranberry sauce, 220 gallons of vegetable medley, 12,000 slices of pumpkin pie and 12,000 rolls.
The H-E-B Feast of Sharing dinners were founded in 1989 and are a facet of H-E-B’s Food Bank
Assistance Program. The program works year-round to prevent hunger in Texas and Mexico.
Today, 31 dinners are held across Texas and in Mexico, with more than 250,000 meals served to
communities.
