A Harlingen man is jailed for allegedly beating his common-law wife with a gun.

According to Harlingen police the attack happened Wednesday night on the 28 hundred block of Ted Circle.

The 33 year old victim, who ran from the residence to seek help, told police she and Ernesto Cavazos, Jr. were arguing, when he punched her several times in the back of the head with a closed fist.

The victim told police the attack didn’t end there.

Police said Cavazos proceeded to throw the victim on the bed and struck her several times on the back of the head again, this time with a black handgun.

The victim also stated Cavazos threatened her life by repeatedly saying he would quote “kill her”.

When Cavazos left the bedroom, the victim managed to run out of the house.

Police say she was able to get help from someone in the neighborhood, who drove her to a safe place and called police.

The woman had cuts to her head and was bleeding.

EMS was called to transport the victim to Valley Baptist Medical Center for treatment.

Police were able to find Cavazos at the residence where he was arrested.

He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $25,000.
