Another highly anticipated race in Cameron County is for the Sheriff's seat.
Democratic Incumbent Sheriff Omar Lucio is seeking his fourth term, but one man is trying to change that.
Republican challenger and former Brownsville police officer Jimmy Manrrique was out at the polls Tuesday vying for each vote looking to take over the Sheriff's job.
He told Action 4 News it’s time for change.
“The jails are going to be clean” Marrique said. “The jails are going to pass inspection. The deputies will be safer out on the street we are going to give them the tools that they need."
Sheriff Omar Lucio said “he doesn’t know what he’s talking about” and questioned if he’d ever been in the Cameron County Jails.
The Sheriff predicts a 3-to-1 victory over Republican Challenger Jimmy Manrrique.
