A 70-year-old domestic violence suspect died in hospital one month after being shot by a Primera police officer.

Primera Police Chief Manuel Treviño confirmed that Willard Hargrove passed away in the hospital on Wednesday.

Hargrove was the suspect in a September 30th domestic violence incident where he allegedly shot at a police officer with a rifle.

The incident ended with the officer firing two shots and one of them hitting Hargrove.

Chief Treviño told Action 4 News that Hargrove suffered from heart complications for years and never recovered from a gunshot wound to his right leg.

Hargrove spent four weeks in the hospital before passing away.
