Officials with the Texas Democratic Party are condemning racist vandalism of an Obama sign in Lubbock and an attack on a volunteer who caught the suspects on camera.

Democrats in the Lubbock area reported that a large number of campaign signs to re-elect President Barack Obama have been either stolen or vandalized.

Many of the vandalized signs were left with racist words on them.

Volunteers staked out new campaign signs overnight but early last Wednesday morning, one of them caught the vandals on camera.

The men are seen on tape driving off, returning, making racist remarks to the volunteer and even hitting him.

The video ends with police arriving at the scene.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa condemned the attack on the volunteer and vandalism as the signs as racist.

Lubbock Police Sgt. Jonathan Stewart said officers detained and questioned the suspects shortly after the incident but released them.

No charges have been filed at this time but Sgt. Stewart said the police department has an active misdemeanor criminal mischief investigation into the incident.

WARNING: The video contains racist words and acts of violence.
