Two people are dead after a high-speed chase with game wardens and state troopers near La Joya.

It all happened on FM 2221 and Jarachina Road north of La Joya on Thursday afternoon.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) officials said it all started when game wardens tried to pull over a suspicious truck in the area.

The driver allegedly led game wardens on a high-speed chase.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials said state troopers and a helicopter were called in to help.

DPS spokesman said a DPS officer fired a weapon during the chase.

Two people inside the truck were killed while another person was injured and rushed to the hospital.

Six people were detained at the scene while others fled the truck.

DPS spokesman Johnny Hernandez told Action 4 News that the incident is now under investigation by the Texas Rangers.

TPWD spokesman Mike Cox said that game wardens did not fire a shot during the incident but the agency will conduct a routine internal affairs investigation.
