Jesus Aguilera, Jr. is recognized as this week’s $400 Pay it 4Ward recipient.
He owns Chuy’s Custom Sports off Stenger Street.
His friends call him Chuy.
He’s donated thousands of shirts and clothing accessories to various community and school district events over the last 13 years in business.
Ben Gomez, a parent educator at San Benito C.I.S.D., nominated him for his selfless acts of kindness.
Ben says even helped him during his own personal struggles.
“I didn't have a washer and he helped me out with that,” he explained. “I was having trouble.”
Ben says Chuy often gives without wanting any recognition at all.
He turned to Action 4 News so he could Pay it 4Ward.
It comes with a $400 prize on behalf of FNB Insurance.
Ben surprised him with the cash for kindness at his t-shirt shop Thursday afternoon.
“Chuy, you give us shirts every year for the different campuses,” Ben said. “He's given shirts to the parents of the school district and we thank him for that. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve helped me. You've helped my son out. You helped me with my son's driver's ed. On behalf of FNB Insurance and Action 4 News, here’s $400 to Pay it 4Ward.”
Karen Gonzalez, spokesperson with FNB Insurance, talked about how Chuy’s giving nature is what the Pay it 4Ward program is all about.
“This is why FNB Insurance is so proud to sponsor Pay it 4Ward, to meet people like you and recognize people… even though you don't want it… it's important because you do so much and expect nothing in return,” she said.
Chuy plans to his Pay it 4Ward prize to help give back to the community.
He calls his Pay it 4Ward nomination, the surprise of a lifetime.
“I just feel humbled,” he said. I didn't expect this. I made a promise when I was in Afghanistan that if I could help I would. You guys got me, but I really appreciate the surprise."
