Authorities temporarily evacuated and sealed off the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) building in Harlingen after finding a suspicious package.

Harlingen police and firefighters were called to the building of Zoy Street just before noon on Thursday.

Harlingen police said they were called for assistance and asked to help to seal off the area.

Both employees and civilians were evacuated from the building.

U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials confirmed that their employees were evacuated from the building as “standard operating procedure.”

ICE officials said that U.S. Federal Protective Service (FPS) agents are taking the lead in the investigation.

The Brownsville Police Department bomb squad was called to examine the package.

Brownsville police said that the package was "rendered safe."

There was no word on what was inside the package but employees and civilians were allowed back inside the building.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
