A shootout that started in a rural town ended with blockades on major roads, including one leading to a beach east of Matamoros.

It all started with reports of gunfire just west of Matamoros in the rural community of Lucio Blanco around 11 a.m. Friday.

Minutes later, residents used the social media network Twitter to report chaos on the streets.

Officials told Action 4 News that there are no reports of wounded or dead at this time.

Residents used Twitter to report blockades and posted pictures.

Among the road reported as blocked are Avenida Lauro Villar, Avenida Del Niño, Emilio Portes Gil and the Sendero Nacional.

Residents reported heavy military and federal police presence on the highway to Playa Bagdad.

According to Twitter, residents reported gunfire or detonations in the Ejido El Longoreño and the Ejido El Tecolote.

Action 4 News will provide more information as it becomes available.
