A man with a gun prompted authorities to temporarily place two schools in Mercedes under lockdown.

It all happened at Travis Elementary School and Mercedes Early Childhood on Thursday afternoon.

School officials the lockdowns happened right when students were set to get out of school.

Law enforcement notified the schools that they believed a man in a black vehicle had a gun.

No arrests have been reported at this time.

Mercedes ISD Superintendent Dr. Daniel Treviño told Action 4 News the schools were placed under lockdown as a precaution.

Dr. Treviño said the lockdown was lifted after about 12 minutes.
