A restaurant, once home to Food 4 Thought’s Golden Plate Award for year-round kitchen cleanliness, fails to live up to high standards after undergoing a name change.
Tejas Branding Iron inside the Sunrise Mall in Brownsville scored 21 demerits on a health inspection report.
The food court eatery used to be called Texas Branding Iron.
The Food Patrol awarded Texas Branding Iron the golden plate award in 2009 for continued kitchen cleanliness.
It’s the highest honor a restaurant can achieve on Food 4 Thought.
But, Texas Branding Iron is now under new ownership.
The name changed to Tejas Branding Iron within the last year.
The golden plate remains on the wall, despite the recent low performer score.
An inspector found mold in the ice machine, rusted equipment and improper labeling on foods.
The Food Patrol went in search to find out what went wrong.
