Authorities are looking for a man who allegedly tried to rob a Rio Grande City bakery and then ditched the getaway driver.

Rio Grande City police said it all started at El Valle bakery of East Main Street around 3:10 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a woman walked into the bakery asking for money and food when a man subject entered the business armed with a handgun.

The man demanded money and assaulted one of the employees.

Police said nothing was taken from the bakery but the pair took off in a grey Chevrolet Malibu.

Officers spotted the vehicle traveling eastbound on Eisenhower Road and followed it to Fairground Road where 40-year-old Saul Alan Elizondo bailed out with a handgun.

Elizondo was able to get away but left 22-year-old driver Veronica Lee Leal behind.

Officers arrested Leal and charged her with aggravated robbery.

Leal remains at the Starr County Jail while Elizondo is considered a fugitive.

Anyone with information about Elizondo's whereabouts it asked to call Rio Grande City Crime Stoppers at (956) 488-8477.
