A Brownsville mother is facing criminal charges after she accidentally punched her own baby in the face during an argument.

Brownsville police arrested 20-year-old Regina Cruz on assault family violence and injury to a child charges on Tuesday evening.

Investigators told Action 4 News that officers were called to a home on South Buckingham Court around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Cruz’s mother told police that Cruz was acting strange when she got home.

The woman noticed a bottle of Vodka in the kitchen prompting her to take Cruz’s infant daughter away.

Cruz allegedly responded by standing up and trying to punch her mother but hit the baby instead.

Police said Cruz continued to fight with her mother.

Officers at the scene noticed a bump on the baby’s head and several scratches to the face.

Cruz remained in custody on Wednesday morning under $6,500 dollars in bonds.
