Valley pays final respects to fallen soldier Jose Luis Montenegro

Family and friends paid their final respects to fallen soldier Jose Luis Montenegro on Wednesday morning.

The body of fallen U.S. Army chief warrant officer arrived at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will follow at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran's Cemetery in Mission.

Montenegro died in the line of died in the line of duty while flying a helicopter in Afghanistan two weeks ago.

The San Juan native is being buried with full military honors.

The family has requested a private funeral service and burial.

Montenegro is the 45th military service member from the Rio Grande Valley to be killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq.
