A Valley public charter school board took no action against an administrator facing sexual harassment claims, even as the district fired one of the alleged victims.

The school board for Ignite Public Schools voted unanimously on Tuesday night to take no action against Rigoberto Abrego, the chief financial officer for the charter schools.

Back in May, at least three women, two employees and one student, came forward and filed grievances for sexual harassment against him at the central offices in Edinburg.

However, the district terminated in the early part of September one of the employees that filed a grievance against Abrego.

Action 4 News will not release the woman’s identity, but she said she felt the district let her go because of the sexual harassment claims she had filed.

Superintendent Fernando Gomez refused to discuss the investigation against Abrego once the school board meeting ended.

The district had previously stated that it was taking the matter seriously and that changes in personnel had delayed the investigation.

Before joining Ignite Public Schools, Abrego had previously worked as assistant superintendent for the Edinburg CISD.

But in 2010, he resigned from his position after several women filed similar claims against him alleging sexual harassment.

Action 4 News will provide more details as the investigation continues to develop.
