A San Juan man is behind bars after he allegedly stabbed his live-in girlfriend at their apartment.

San Juan Police responded to a domestic dispute around three o'clock Monday afternoon to a San Juan apartment off 6th Street just west of Nebraska Avenue.

The woman called police after she ran from her apartment where she says her boyfriend, 20-year-old Francisco Bravo III, stabbed her.

By the time police arrived to the apartment, Bravo was gone.

San Juan Police Sgt. Rudy Luna said the victim did the right thing by getting out of there.

"It’s important for females and males who are involved in domestic violence, to make sure you report it.  Report it to your local police department so we can give you assistance and you can get away from that type of environment,” Luna said.

The woman was released from the hospital after receiving some stitches.

Bravo faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.

Bravo does not have a previous record for domestic violence, but he has been involved in burglaries.
