AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP) -- The state's top agriculture official will talk about security along the Texas-Mexico border in an address before a military support organization.
Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples will renew his call for more security assets along the border in a speech Wednesday in Austin.
Staples will address the Texas Capital Area Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army.
He's also expected to discuss a report by retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey and retired Maj. Gen. Robert Scales, titled "Texas Border Security: A Strategic Military Assessment."
The report views the battle against Mexican drug cartels and Texas border security from a military perspective.
Staples has argued that Texas farms and ranches near the Rio Grande are on the front line of what he calls a real border war.
