Weslaco teen killed in car accident was traveling for holiday weekend

Joanna  Garcia, 19-years-old, was driving home for the Labor Day weekend when she and three of her passengers were involved in a deadly car accident.

The accident happened Friday around 9:30 p.m on Friday one mile south of Mathis.

Joanna  and one of her passengers, an 18-year-old from Corpus, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of her other passengers, brothers from Alamo, remain hospitalized for serious injuries from the accident.

The viewing for Joanna will be held Sunday evening at the Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan at 5 p.m.

A rosary will be held later in the evening at 7 p.m.

A mass will be Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the San Martin Catholic Church in Weslaco.

The burial will be right after the service at Val Verde Memorial Garden in Donna.

Joanna was an “A” student and was attending Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Austin.

Her family said she was coming home for the holiday with three of her fellow classmates.
