McAllen boy dies days after bicycle accident

A McAllen boy lost his battle for life one week after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle on a busy street.

The deadly accident happened near Nolana Avenue and North 1st Street around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22nd.

McAllen police told Action 4 News that 11-year-old Matthew Scott Yager was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a car.

Paramedics rushed the boy to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Investigators told Action 4 News that the 11-year-old died on Tuesday.

Authorities have ordered an autopsy to learn more about the accident that caused the boy's death.

The driver of the car that hit the boy's bicycle remained at the scene of the accident.

McAllen police said there are not criminal charges at this time.

The fatal accident remains under investigation.
