A Brownsville mother is facing criminal charges after she allegedly left her children at a local Burger King restaurant while she went shopping across the street.

Brownsville police arrested 45-year-old Maricela Hernandez Molina around 4:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Molina left her 8- and 9-year-old children at a Burger King near West Alton Gloor and Expressway 77/83.

Molina allegedly went  to a Walmart store across the street and went shopping for 45 minutes.

Officers charged Molina with two counts of abandoning a child with intent to return.

Molina appeared before a Brownsville municipal court judge on Monday morning.

Bond information was not immediately available.
