With Labor Day right around the corner, the McAllen Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation want people to be safe.

From Sunday August 19 to Wednesday September 5, a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) will be conducted.

The program will promote safe driving with its education and law enforcement efforts.

Officers will be working overtime to look for drivers that are drinking alcohol and/or are intoxicated.

Additional agents will be out on the roads to enforce Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) laws.

McAllen police say, “Plan ahead if you decide to drink then designate a driver or take a taxi cab to get home safely.”
