A young man and a young woman are dead after a rollover accident just north of Harlingen.

It all happened on FM 507 north of Valley International Airport around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the fatal accident.

State trooper 20-year-old Christopher Michael Cabriales lost control of his 2012 Kia Ole while heading south.

Investigators believe Cabriales overcorrected sending his car into the northbound lane and smashing through an iron fence.

The car flipped over several times before landing upside down.

State troopers confirmed that 18-year-old passenger Vanessa Garcia died in the accident.

Investigators said Garcia was wearing her seat belt but it wasn't enough to save her life.

Paramedics rushed Cabriales to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where authorities confirmed that he died from his injuries.

It’s not clear where Cabriales and Garcia were coming from or going to but public records show Cabriales lives on neaerby Kilbourn Road.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
