Three gunmen killed, two arrested in San Luis Potosi

Three gunmen are dead following a Thursday shootout with soldiers south of the border in San Luis Potosi.

It all happened in the Colonia Lomas Segunda Seccion of the state capital of San Luis Potosi.

Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) reported that soldiers were on patrol when they came under fire.

The soldiers returned fire and when the smoke cleared, three gunmen were dead.

Authorities arrested two surviving gunmen at the scene and seized guns, rocket launchers, ammunition, grenades, two vehicles and other gear.

Names of those arrested and killed have not been released but the case remains under investigation by federal officials.

The City of San Luis Potosi is about 400 miles south of Matamoros.

Lomas de Sotelo, D.F., a 9 de agosto de 2012.- La Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional como información preliminar hace del conocimiento de la opinión pública que en el marco de la Estrategia Integral del Estado Mexicano en contra del Narcotráfico y la Delincuencia Organizada, esta fecha personal militar jurisdiccionado a este mando territorial, fue agredido con disparos de armas de fuego en la colonia  Lomas Segunda Sección de San Luis Potosí, S.L.P., por lo que en defensa de su integridad física y de la población civil repelió la agresión, falleciendo en el lugar de los hechos tres agresores y deteniendo a dos más; asimismo se aseguró lo siguiente:

• 13 armas largas.
• Un arma corta.
• Dos lanzagranadas.
• 112 cargadores.
• Cuatro granadas calibre 40 mm.
• Cinco granadas de mano.
• Dos vehículos.
• Diverso equipo táctico.

Los detenidos, lo asegurado y los cuerpos de los occisos fueron puestos a disposición de las autoridades correspondientes.
