Mercedes police arrested a man for beating and almost drowning his girlfriends two children.

According to Police Chief Olga Maldonado, the mother came forth about the abuse on August 2, claiming that her boyfriend, 23-year-old Daniel Torres, held her against her will and tortured her children.

Chief Maldonado said Torres beat and bit his girlfriends 3-year-old.

He then allegedly put frozen ground beef on her face to bring down the swelling, but the frozen meat tore off part of her skin.

Torres is accused of abusing almost drowning his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

He allegedly submerged him in a bucket of water until he turned pale.

The girlfriend also accused Torres of holding a knife to her neck,  but he denies the charges.

Chief Maldonado believes the abuse had been going on for some time.

Torres was charged with two counts of injury to a child and one count of aggravated assault.

His bond was set at $700,000.
