Authorities are investigating who tapped into an oil pipeline to steal thousands of gallons of fuel south of the border in Veracruz.

It all happened on a highway between the cities of Acayucan and Cosamaloapan in the State of Veracruz on Thursday.

Mexico’s Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) reported that soldiers were patrolling the highway when they came across the operation.

Soldiers reported finding a tap to siphon fuel from a pipeline and a stolen tanker truck with 8,453 gallons of fuel inside.

No arrests were reported but the case remains under investigation by federal officials.

The discovery comes a day after eight stolen tanker trucks with tens of thousands of gallons in stolen fuel were found in nearby Minatitlan.
